Is Process Killing Your Office Productivity?

Processes are supposed to help organizations, improve efficiency for new hires and existing employees, and so on—but they can quickly get out of control.

Over the past fifteen years, the amount of procedures, vertical layers, interface structures, coordination bodies, and decision approvals needed…has increased by anywhere from 50 percent to 350 percent.

Why do we love process so much? It offers a way to measure progress and productivity, which makes people feel more efficient and accountable. When used correctly, processes should standardize and simplify the necessary tasks that keep business running smoothly. They should enable organizations to undertake complex work, particularly as an organization grows. Smart processes encapsulate bundles of organizational knowledge.

But it’s not a good thing when there are so many processes in place that they restrain the people they’re supposed to help. If your team spends its days asking for permission before executing, taking an hour to complete expense reports or time sheets, attending redundant meetings, or answering irrelevant emails, you’ve got a problem. Exactly when are employees supposed to find the time to innovate when every task or topic is labeled “urgent” and every deadline is ASAP? Something will eventually give, and that something is going to be the part of the job they can keep pushing off until later.

WANT MEDIA RESULTS? PAY ATTENTION

Biggest Infographic Mistakes

I keep reading about the vital importance of content, however, I still see major mistakes being made with those whom claim to be Content Experts.
You have designed a perfect Infographic, but have you paid attention to the audience that will view/read it + have a clear call to action?  I see too many content strategists putting lengthy text into an InfoGRAPHIC which amounts to as much sense as a four page, 1,700 word press release.
Here are my Top 7 Tips for ‘sticky’ Technology Infographics:

 

  1. WHO WILL BE READING/VIEWING IT AND HAVE YOU DESIGNED IT SO THERE IS A CALL TO ACTION FOR THAT AUDIENCE/PERSON?
  2. Keep it visual—go easy on the text (an entire pass through should take >15 seconds)
  3. Use no more than 2-3 colors (too many colors distracts from the graphs of data).
  4. Keep the results clear
  5. Break up your themes with strong headers
  6. Have a clear Call-To-Action
  7. Turn it into a video

I Have Content, NOW WHAT?

‘Content Marketing’ was a big 2013’s buzzword and PR campaigns shifted their focus towards content generation to help boost profiles, brand awareness and even SEO.  A survey by the Content Marketing Institute showed us that almost 93% of marketers plan on using content marketing this year. In addition to written content, the industry is experiencing an infiltration of visual assets.
